People are strange. Beautiful and exciting. Emotional, cool, exciting, complicated. People are unique beings with desires and needs. In Lifestyle Research for Concept Development, ILS-lecturer Kim Versluys and former ILS-lecturer Inez Groen describe how you can get to know these people and how to research the lifestyles of all kinds of target groups. All students of the study programme will use the book. But the insight into lifestyles combined with knowledge about research methods makes it an indispensable guide for all concept developers. Top five designs at hall 4 / Ambiente

In the past few days, we have given trend tours through hall 4. During these tours we showed you nine designs, but which design fits our trend(s) best? We nominated five designs in each hall that make a chance at winning the best trend design title 2019 from the Future Thinkers. Materialistic minimalism The trend ‘’Materialistic Minimalism’’ is about simplifying life without making compromises. We focus on reducing our consumption of luxurious and lush things but still have the desire to be surrounded by aesthetically pleasing objects in our homes. In that sense we are not letting go of our materialistic needs, but we satisfy ourselves with simple objects that can be described as minimalist

Dimension of indulgence The trend ‘’Dimension of Indulgence’’ focuses the attention on how luxury is used as a means to escape from the current society. In the past, we have seen the phenomenon of escapism in multiple forms, such as the era of romanticism, where the past and supernatural were explored. Bee’s Wrap The trend Raw is the New Great is about destigmatizing and heading in the direction of finding a new function for waste materials. This also entails transforming those elements in a new sort of material. The intention of products such as furniture or tableware is no longer only about functionality or aesthetics, but also about the production process. In the past, we have seen the phenomenon of escapism in multiple forms, such as the era of romanticism, where the past and supernatural were explored. We focus on reducing our consumption of luxurious and lush things but still have the desire to be surrounded by aesthetically pleasing objects in our homes. The trend Materialistic Minimalism is about simplifying life without making compromises. We focus on reducing our consumption of luxurious and lush things but still have the desire to be surrounded by aesthetically pleasing objects in our homes. In that sense we are not letting go of our materialistic needs, but we satisfy ourselves with simple objects that can be described as minimalistic. Another year, a new team and new trends. This year a group of 7 students have the opportunity to go to Ambiente and give daily trend tours. The students started working on the Ambiente Trend Book months before the fair. They started with research to see what changes and movements they see. With all this information they sit together to cluster and discuss what has the same value and needs. In this process the trends will form and you can see the final product in this trend book!
